Rains and Traffic Jams…!
The
Heat-waves in our very own Dilli (New Delhi) were at its peak, and all that we
can do is to switch on the AC and be seated and locked inside our homes or
offices. And the only hope that anyone can think of is RAIN. And there it comes
to the rescue…..The Monsoons as we call it. (Saavan aaya re :P)
But with
rain comes great jeopardy….The Traffic Jams (:x), I have no idea as how traffic
jams are in a direct relation with the rains. I mean do our cars also want to
enjoy the rains as I am very confused why with rains comes traffic jams.
(Though I only remember what Spiderman said. “With great powers comes great responsibilities”)
but how come rain and traffic jams related.

The roads
are the same, the number of cars is the same (though cars are increasing day by
day but still) the route remains the same, the leaving time to get to the
destination remains the same, but why there is always traffic jams when there
is rain.

Though it is obvious that rain causes traffic slowdown.
People tend to drive slowly and cautiously. However,
Traffic slowdown is no reason for Traffic stagnation, as it merely just slows
down traffic pace.
However, due to poor infrastructural development in certain areas in Delhi, water gets logged, and makes much part of the road inaccessible. This reduces the on-road area, and hence there are more vehicle per area unit of a road. The "on road " area reduces drastically as pavements become inaccessible to pedestrians/cyclists( who move towards right of the road, squeezing the other traffic)
Also most vehicles break down due to water logging( water entering engines /spark plugs) thus creating a jam

This, I believe is the prime reason for traffic stagnation...

The drainage system in Delhi is as good as non-existent. Rain
water does not have any outlets and results in accumulating on the streets.
Lower visibility during rains naturally results in slowdown too.
We are living in a modern & a technology driven world,
each day whenever we see the news channels we hear these people who actually
belong to some political parties blaming each other for these scenarios, I mean
dude you guys have time to talk these shitty stuff on News channels why can’t
you guys spend this time in improving the infrastructure of your area and the
country where we live in.
Every time they talk about developing the country and come up
with these plans of making high-tech cities & smart cities
but the problem persists. How can you talk about developments when you cannot even solve the problems like water logging!
Building bridges and road, coming out with several storey
buildings doesn’t mean we are advanced and a modern city.

We often hear that several crores of money is to be spent on
the basic development of the country but it is for sure that these large sums
of money is only to be pocketed by the ones who are running our country and all
that we get is a big basket of promises.
So, whenever and wherever you want to go, do carry a boat
with you for easy manoeuvre during the rains :P
So that’s that, Happy Monsoons everyone, do enjoy the rain.
